Congratulations are in order for a number of Michigan junior golfers following a terrific summer of fantastic performances capped off at the Randy Wise Junior Open, part of the American Junior Golf Association?s tournament schedule, held at GAM member club, Spring Meadows Country Club.
James Dewling of Brighton. James had a very successful summer which included qualifying for the Michigan Amateur, GAM Championship, and advancing to the match play portion of the State Junior Amateur at Forest Akers this summer. James posted rounds of 70-73-70=213 at the The three round score was good enough to get Dewling into a playoff where he was able to capture the title with a par on the first playoff hole. The win comes against a field of 70 top junior golfers from across the country.
In the Girls Division a number of Michigan Juniors participated and fared quite well. Christine Meier finished second in the event with a three day total of 74-72-79?225, just one stroke off the pace of Courtney McKim of Raleigh, NC. Shannon Warner, Livonia, Liz Nagel, Dewitt, and Shana Bauer, Grand Blanc all recorded Top 10 Finishes.
The event also allowed a look into the future with a strong showing by Jacqueline Setas of East Lansing. Jacqueline was the youngest player to play in the event after going through Sunday?s Qualifying round. Jacqueline was the runner-up in the 13 & Under Division at the State Junior Girls at Mt. Pleasant C.C.
