Happy Birthday HOF Betty Richart!

Happy 90th Birthday to longtime GAM and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Betty Richart!

Richart, who is a member at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor resident, has been involved with several aspects of golf and continues to be an ardent supporter of the sport she grew up playing.

She was elected to the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 2002; became an Honorary Governor of the GAM in 1999; and received the GAM Distinguished Service Award in 1992.

Years before Title IX, Richart played on her high school boy’s golf team for four years . She has played in countless Open events, regional, city and club championships across six different states.

Those who know Richart know she is enthusiastic about golf and has a great knowledge of the game. She has been involved with course rating, women’s golf and junior golf and served on the USGA Women’s Committee for 17 years – two of those years as chairperson.  She has also been very active in her community and has helped the Ann Arbor YMCA, Washtenaw United Way and Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.

Some of the awards she has earned over the years include:

          1997 Michigan Spirit of Golf Award

          1999 Issac B. Grainger Award for 25 years of Outstanding Service to the USGA

          2001 Jean McGregor Dodds Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s District GA
