GOLF ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — University of Michigan senior Catherine Peters was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Region Team today (Tuesday, May 17). Peters is the second Wolverine to earn all-regional honors following former Wolverine Brianna Broderick’s selection in 2005.

Peters, who was named an All-Big Ten second team performer, posted a U-M record-setting fifth-place performance at the NCAA Alabama Regional, helping the Wolverines finish sixth and advance to the NCAA Final for just the second time in program history. She set the program’s regional individual record with her 223 (77-74-72) total — lowering the mark by a single shot. In addition, her play guided U-M to a record 916 event total — lowering the program’s team regional record by nine shots.

Peters has started all 10 events this season and posted five top-20 finishes with two among the top 10 and top five. After not having a sub-par round her first three seasons, she has produced five this season and is averaging a career-best 74.14 per round, a little more than two-and-a-half strokes better than her prior best as a junior (76.76).

The Clarence, New York, native highlighted this season with back-to-back career-best rounds of 68 (-4) in the first and second rounds of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which aided her in setting the U-M 54-hole record at 11-under 205, along with teammate Grace Choi.

Peters and the Wolverines return to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 14 years, traveling to Eugene, Oregon, Friday through Wednesday, May 20-25. The six-day, 72-hole and team match-play event will be held at the Eugene Country Club and feature an 24-team field, and 10 invited individuals, competing for an opportunity win the NCAA individual and team crowns.
