Novi Resident and Graduate Of Mercy High School Takes Home The Honor For Second-Straight Year

 

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (7/6/2016) — Sarah Montone (Novi, Mich. / Mercy) was a starter all year on the course and today, she was recognized for her work away from the links as she was tabbed a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar for the second-straight year.

A total of 828 golfers earned the honor including 13 from the Horizon League and 17 from the seven Division I schools in Michigan. It is also the 19th Scholar All-American honor in the history of the Titan program. 

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and all student-athletes must also meet a few other requirements, including being of high moral character and in good standing at the college making the nomination and playing a minimum of 50.0 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Montone holds a 3.982 as a Business major at Detroit Mercy. She started all 10 tournaments as a junior and finished among the top two on the team in six events. On the year, she also earned a spot on the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, the Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Rolls and was a member of the Horizon League Spring All-Academic Team.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
