COURSE OF THE WEEK: Mystic Creek at Detroit Area Favorite
As you drive through
the gates of Camp Dearborn in Milford on your way to Mystic Creek Golf Club,
you find so much more than just a golf course.
Approximately 35 miles
northwest of Dearborn City Hall, Camp Dearborn covers more than 600 acres of
forest, lakes, beaches, and campgrounds, and offers a wide range of outdoor
activities including swimming, fishing, and of course, golf.
Mystic Creek Golf Club
opened in 1996 and was designed by Conroy/Dewling Associates. The course was
privately owned and operated until 2012, when the City of Dearborn purchased it
and began daily operations.
Made up of three
distinctly different 9-hole layouts, golfers get to pick which combination they
desire for a round of 18, or can play a round of 27 and try all three layouts.
The first set of nine
is named ‘The Lakes’, and according to course General Manager Trent Smith, it
is a favorite among golfers because of its “beauty and scenery.” The Lakes
course winds through five separate lakes, leading water to come into play on 8
of the 9 holes. The carefully designed layout is challenging but rewards
golfers who are accurate off the tee box and around the greens.
The second set of nine
is named ‘The Woods’ and Smith says that golfers “like the challenge of The Woods
demanding holes with elevation and tall hardwoods.” Located at the northeast
corner of Camp Dearborn, The Woods offers lush bent grass fairways and
elevation changes that will make you utilize each club in your bag.
The final set of nine
is named ‘The Meadows’ and as Smith details, it is “challenging but the most
playable of the three.” The Meadows offers fairways the twist and turn,
strategically placed bunkers designed to catch a misplaced shot, and a series
of ponds that can come into play.
Each of the three
courses come in at a par 36 and finish with par 5s. With five different sets of
tees to choose from, Mystic Creek is suitable for golfers of all ages and skill
level.
Mystic Creek also
offers a full-service 15,000 square foot clubhouse if you need somewhere to
relax before or after your round.
With rolling meadows,
tall stands of hardwoods, and a multitude of picturesque lakes, this beautiful
course is understandably known as one of the favorites in the Detroit area.
According to Trent
Smith, in addition to your everyday round of golf, “Mystic Creek specializes in
group events from corporate golf outings, retreats, weddings, showers, family
events and many more”.
