Michigan’s Steven Hammon to continue on board of directors for Golf Course Superintendents Association of America

Lawrence, Kan. (Feb. 19, 2024) Steven J. Hammon, golf course superintendent at Traverse City (Mich.) Country Club, will continue to serve on the board of directors for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) it was announced at the association’s annual meeting Feb. 1, which was held in conjunction with the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show in Phoenix.

Hammon was first elected to the board in 2022.

GCSAA is a leading golf organization in the United States. Its focus is on golf course management, and since 1926 GCSAA has been the top professional association for the men and women who manage golf courses in the U.S. and worldwide. From its headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., the association provides education, information, and representation to more than 20,000 members in more than 78 countries.

The board sets the strategic direction for the association as it strives to serve its members, advance the profession, and improve communities through enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf.

Hammon has been at Traverse City Country Club for 27 years after stints as superintendent at Indianwood Golf and Country Club near Lake Orion, Mich. and assistant superintendent at Crystal Downs Country Club in Frankfort, Mich.

A 35-year GCSAA member, Hammon is a past president of the Michigan GCSA and has served as a GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador and last year was part of the GCSAA’s Best Management task group, Achievements and Leadership Awards committee, Student Scholars and Editorial task group. He also served on the USGA Green Section Committee for 20 years.

 

Hammon earned a turfgrass management certificate from Michigan State University. He lives in Frankfort, Mich., with his wife Sue. They have three sons, Evan, Luke and Elliott.
