CLARKSTON – Oakhurst Golf & Country Club, an Arthur Hills-designed course built in 1998, is hosting the GAM Senior Tournament of Champions presented by BOYNE Golf Monday.
Champions, male and female, eligible for having won a GAM member club senior championship (men ages 55-plus, women ages 50-plus), or a GAM title this season, will play a final 18-hole stroke play tournament from various tee positions. It’s the second consecutive year the Senior Tournament of Champions has been hosted by Oakhurst.
The Oakhurst course, which can play as long as 7,054 yards, weaves through oak, pine, and maple trees and over and around protected wetlands.
Hills incorporated significant risk-reward factors, but also provided some bailout areas for conservative play. The course demands accurate and well-placed tee shots, especially on the shorter par 4 holes.
Among the many tournaments Oakhurst has hosted are the 2010 Michigan Amateur Championship, the 2019 GAM Senior Match Play Championship and the 2021 GAM Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
George Bowman is the host professional and has been at Oakhurst since it opened in 1998. Adam Hosler has been the superintendent since 2014. Learn more at invitedclubs.com/clubs/oakhurst-golf-country-club.
Last year at Oakhurst, Tom Gieselman of Oakland University Golf and Learning Center, and Donna Tepper of Country Club of Detroit, emerged as champions. Tepper is returning to defend her title.
