Tanglewood Golf Club Hosting 22nd Michigan Net Amateur Championship

Written By: Greg Johnson

SOUTH LYON – Tanglewood Golf Club, one of the most popular public course venues in metropolitan Detroit, is hosting the 22nd Michigan Net Amateur Championship presented by Michigan Golf Live.

A field of 78 male golfers with USGA/GAM Handicap Indexes of 20.4 or better square off over 36 holes of net stroke play Monday and Tuesday to determine a state net champion.

Tanglewood features three nines or 27 holes and what they call a country club-like experience.

The tournament will be played on the West and North nines of three designed by architect William Newcomb. The facility opened in 1991 and has appeared in several best-of rankings over the years. Newcomb fit the course to the natural lay of the land.

The course has hosted numerous Golf Association of Michigan tournaments and qualifiers over the years. A unique aspect of the facility is the West Course’s scenic sixth hole that features a green shaped like the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It leads players to the seventh tee box, which is shaped like the Upper Peninsula. Tanglewood also features an all-grass driving range and a spacious chipping and putting area, as well as private lessons, clinics and club re-gripping and repair.

Brad Stedry and Mark Stevenson are the golf professionals and David Moritz is the superintendent. KemperSports manages the club. Learn more at tanglewoodlion.com.

Last year at Lakelands Golf & Country Club in Brighton, Andrew Lang of Grosse Ile won his second net title of the summer, topping Jerry Tranzow of Macomb by two shots. Lang is returning to defend.
