GOLF ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN

COURSE OF THE WEEK: Travis Pointe Country Club

Located fifteen minutes from downtown Ann Arbor and five
minutes from downtown Saline, Travis Pointe Country Club is one of the finest
golf courses in the state. Built in 1977 by Michigan golf architect, Bill
Newcomb, Travis Pointe is a member-owned private country club.

With six sets of tees, the course is suitable for golfers of
all skill levels, with the course being able to play anywhere from 5,264 yards
to a difficult 7,326 yards. The course was designed for the golfer to feel
comfortable while teeing off, but then feel the challenge when on the green.
With more than 80 bunkers and 15 water hazards, Travis Pointe is a difficult
but fair course.

Travis Pointe’s Head Golf Professional, Mike Areddy, has
been the head pro at Travis Pointe since 1990. A graduate of Eastern Michigan
University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Mike has been a PGA Member
for more than 15 years. He has attended PGA business Schools I and II, as well
as various annual golf seminars. Mike is considered one of the top teaching
pros in the state and has a loyal following of Travis Pointe members. He
caddied at Franklin Hills from 1969-1974 and was a Shop Assistant there from
1974-1979 before becoming an Assistant Golf Professional there from 1979-1984
and then an Assistant Golf Professional at Pine Lake from 1985-1989.

In December of 2009, Mike was featured in PGA Magazine and accredited for his
expertise in custom fitting golf clubs for his clientele. Mike works closely
with manufacturers and club retailers to ensure the best possible fit for any
client. With such a vast knowledge of the game of golf, Mike is now offering
his “On Pointe” Pro Tips to listeners of WTKA Sport Talk Radio. Check out some
of his tips by clicking the link HERE.

Mike Areddy is just one of the many great staff members that
Travis Pointe Country Club has to offer. In addition, the amenities at Travis
Pointe go far beyond just a golf course. They include: indoor and outdoor
tennis, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, racquetball court, and both
informal and formal dining. Travis Pointe also has multiple banquet rooms for
parties, meetings, and weddings.

Travis Pointe offers something for everyone; including
families, couples and singles. Ask any of their members what appeals to them
most about Travis Pointe and they’re likely to tell you it’s the pride in
belonging to a special place and the camaraderie they feel from day one. It’s
easy to see why so many have decided Travis Pointe is the right choice for
their family.
