EAST LANSING – Woodside Golf Course is one of a handful of 12-hole golf courses in the country designed to appeal to, among others, those who seek a course that takes less time to play, those beginning the game and those who perhaps seek a less physically demanding experience.
The Hawk Hollow Golf Property, which also features the popular Eagle Eye and Hawk Hollow courses less than three miles away, proved to be a perfect spot for the first GAM 14 & Under Match Play Championship for boys and girls last year, and will serve in that same capacity for the second GAM 14 & Under Match Play Championship presented by Pepsi on Monday and Tuesday.
Woodside, previously a nine-hole facility, added three holes in 2014 designed by Eagle Eye’s renowned architect Chris Lutzke. It stretches over 146 acres along Wood Road featuring hardwoods that frame generous fairways. The 12 Woodside holes can typically be played in less than 3 hours.
A field of 32 boys and 16 girls will play in the tournament, which combines stroke play and match play. After 12 holes of stroke-play qualifying Monday morning, players will be seeded into match-play flights of eight players each. Players will play three matches against other players of similar ability levels through Tuesday afternoon to determine champions.
Brighton’s David Codd and Rochester’s Savannah Haque won last year’s championship flights, but are not in the field this year.
