GOLF ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN

COURSE OF THE WEEK: Hawk Hollow GC

Just north of East Lansing in
Bath is one of the state’s premiere golf destinations, Hawk Hollow Golf Course.

Built in 1996, Hawk Hollow
was originally an 18-hole course. However, in 1997 the course opened up holes
number 19-27, thus creating a wonderful 27-hole championship golf course that
has something to offer everyone.

Hawk Hollow is a classic
Jerry Matthews designed course that has been rated 4.5 out of 5 stars by Golf
Digest and is listed among the “Top 200 In American You Can Play.”
This 500-acre course provides you the opportunity to use every club in your
bag.

The course has five different
tee boxes, ranging from 6,974 yards from the Championship tees to 5,078 from
the forward tees.

The front nine presents
generous fairways with the yardage spread out nicely and no extremely long or
short holes. Water plays a big role across the entire front nine. Numbers 10
and 11 are playable doglegs, with each bending mildly left. Again, water comes
into play throughout the back nine of the course. Being accurate off the tee
box is a big key to scoring well on the course.

The par four No. 18 is a
favorite among regulars at Hawk Hollow, and is one of the best finishing holes
in the state of Michigan. It is a dog-leg right that offers a generous landing
area guarded by two bunkers on the left, but with a slope that feeds to the
water on the right. The second shot is over Hawk Lake to an enormous,
two-tiered green and requires steely determination.

Hawk Hollow also offers
complete practice facilities on the grounds of the course. The facilities
feature two full size practice ranges, a large undulating practice putting green,
and a special short game practice area which includes a large sand bunker and
room for 40-yard approach shot practice to a challenging green complex. Hawk
Hollow Golf Academy is also part of the practice offering.

Hawk Hollow features a
full-service Pro Shop that stocks apparel from Nike, Adidas, Ashworth, Antigua,
Callaway, Greg Norman, Gear, Foot-Joy, and Under Armour. If you can’t find what
you are looking for, the club has accounts with all major vendors and their
experienced staff can assist you with your special order.

Hawk Hollow also specializes
in club fittings and they offer a full range of selections. Their policy is to
match the prices you would get at the local discounters, while allowing you the
full service you expect at Hawk Hollow. They offer Callaway, Cleveland,
Bridgestone, Nike, TaylorMade, and Titleist. As with apparel, you have the
flexibility to order clubs from any major manufacturer and Hawk Hollow will
special order your clubs and provide follow-up service to ensure your complete
satisfaction.

The grill at Hawk Hollow
serves fresh food made to order. A complete beverage selection awaits golfers
before, during, and after their round. Relax and watch the game on one of their
big screen televisions with comfortable seating inside. Or you can enjoy the
view on the veranda overlooking the lake and the eighteenth hole.

Hawk Hollow also plays host
to events throughout the golf season to golfers of all ages and skill sets.
Coming up on Sept. 30 is the Toys for Tots Charity Golf Outing. The purpose of
this event is to help raise money for the children of Eaton and Ingham County
for the Toys for Tots season. The event includes a four man 18-hole scramble
with range balls, food, gift cards, and much more. If you are looking for a fun
round before the golf season in Michigan is over, Hawk Hollow will be hosting
their annual “Hawk Hollow-een” event on Friday, October 26th. The event
includes 18 holes of golf and cider and donuts in the morning.
