Champions Crowned in Rain-Shortened GAM Scramble State Championship

ACME – The second round of the 11th GAM Scramble State Championship was washed out by rain at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa Monday morning and the leading teams after round one were crowned champions for 2022.

The scramble teams played the Spruce Run course on Sunday and were scheduled to play the final round on The Bear course Monday.

The Gross champions, who shot 8-under 62 on the par 70 Spruce Run course, included Ryan Hansen of Berkley, Michael Chodzko of Plymouth, Joseph Strauel of Troy and Robert Meshew of Allen Park.

The runner-up gross scoring team with a 63 was James Omietanski of Livonia, Dan Omietanski of Livonia, Jim Grant of Canadian Lakes and Laurie Grant of Canadian Lakes.

The Net champions, who shot a net 11-under 59, included Pam and Jerry Bradford of Bloomfield and Steve and Michelle Warner of Rochester.

The runner-up net team also shot 59 but lost in a scorecard playoff. That team included Melissa and William Haas of Sylvan Lake and Jan and Brian Ives of Hartland.

A field of 23 teams from across the state competed in the 2022 championship. They played the four-person “step aside” scramble format.

Teams were made up of any four GAM members – men, women, senior men, and/or senior women, each with a valid GAM/USGA Handicap Index. A team’s total index must equal 36.0 or higher. Teams were not allowed to have more than two players with a GAM/USGA Handicap Index lower than 10.0 in the last 12 months (year to date).
