Tune in July 26, 6 p.m. to Sirius 208 or XM 92 to hear Michigan State University’s Dr. Thomas A. Nikolai on the Katrek and Maginnes On Tap program. Nikolai is known as the “Doctor of Green Speed” and will be discussing that topic as well as other topics pertaining to turfgrass.
His research has focused on increasing green speed while improving turfgrass health and has led to lightweight rolling of greens, which was not commonly performed until his research and speaking ability made rolling popular. He worked with the PGA Tour in 2002 and 2006 to research soft spikes versus 8mm metal spikes.
Dr. Nikolai has taught “Taking Control of Green Speed” for 10 years at the Golf Industry Show to sell-out sessions. He is also the author of the book “The Superintendent’s Guide to Putting Green Speed.”
