FRANKENMUTH – Robert Hermes of Howell and Robert Olds of Holt won the gross scramble on Monday, and Joe Shaffer of Ortonville and Arthur Black of Brighton won a three-team playoff to take the net scramble on Tuesday in the 6th GAM Net Two-Person Scramble Championship at The Fortress Golf Course.
Both days of competition were presented by the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Hermes and Olds shot a 10-under 62 in winning the gross title, one shot better than a six-team tie at 9-under.
Brett McBride of Pigeon and Jamie Learman of Caseville won the six-way scorecard playoff to take home the runner-up trophies.
The other five teams that shot 63 included Nathan Johnson of Grosse Ile and Ryan Johnson of Bloomfield Hills, Matthew Wallace of Shelby and Jason Wagner of Waterford, Griffin Wright and Dillon DuBois of Rochester Hills, Dwaine Johnson of Plymouth and Bryan Dutton of Wixom, and Samuel Ammon of Lansing and Zac Kelly of Ann Arbor.
In Tuesday’s Net Championship, Black snuggled up a 22-foot putt for a tap-in par on the fourth playoff hole using net scoring. It tied the par made by Jerald Tranzow of Macomb and Andrew Lang of Grosse Ile, but they had a small net scoring advantage in the matchup.
Sean Robinson of Macomb and Jack McHale of Macomb Township were the third team in a three-hole aggregate net scoring playoff at 11-under net 61.
The playoff ended up going to a fourth hole because Black and Tranzow, who had a one-stroke net advantage for the three-hole playoff, remained tied with Tranzow and Lang.
